Nick of Time Grant

Annually, MWCR sets aside 15-20% of our end-of-year account balance for the Nick of Time grant fund to assist adopted MWCR collies and their family with veterinary bills.  MWCR is committed to caring for our collies both before they’re adopted and after they’re adopted.  If your MWCR collie has veterinary expenses for an acute or an ongoing problem, we can help with some of the expenses.  Grants are generally awarded quarterly with recipients eligible to receive a maximum of 30% of the fund amount per year. The grants are awarded confidentially and payments are made directly to the adopter’s veterinary clinic.  If your adopted MWCR collie has veterinary bills, except for routine care, please consider applying and perhaps we can help with some of those bills.  Attached is the application form which can be submitted to MWCR at collietalk@yahoo.com or mailed to us at MWCR, 1600 18th Avenue NE, PO Box 68006, Minneapolis, MN  55418.  We do not request any personal financial information, only information on the nature of the collie’s veterinary issue.

Spring flowers for Twin Cities area residents

Animal Folks Minnesota is holding a spring plant sale fundraiser. Ann Olson, the executive director of Animal Folks Minnesota, a nonprofit that works on puppy mill issues, was the guest speaker at MWCR’s Annual Dinner in 2015.   A variety of hanging baskets and patio pots are available.  Orders must be placed by April 10 and will be available for pick up on May 18 in Savage or May 19 in St. Paul.  This is a great opportunity to get beautiful flowers and support a reputable animal organization.

Notes from our President

By Terry Libro

Thank you for voting

Thank you to everyone who voted in the 2018 MWCR election for President and Secretary. If you haven’t mailed your ballot, there still is time to do so.

The Nominating Committee, consisting of  Linda Riegger, Judith Roggow, Russell Sager, and Matt Beckwith with the assistance of Chris Norman, will be meeting in mid-March to count the ballots and officially announce the results.

Online auction

Mark your calendars for May 23 to May 27, the dates of this year’s MWCR Online Auction.  Linda Riegger, along with Barb and Dave Gibson, are getting ready for the second MWCR Online Auction to benefit MWCR’s collies.  Last year’s auction was very successful with bidders from across the country.  Watch for more details closer to the date.

Event season has started

MWCR’s community event season started with this year’s Great Lakes Pet Expo and will continue with numerous events through the spring, summer, and fall.   If you have a few hours to spare, we’d love for you and your collie to staff our booth at various events.  We’ll be listing our upcoming events so if something catches your eye, come and join us.
