MWCR at June community events

MWCR volunteers were busy representing the organization at several community events in June (see more pictures of these events in the June Photo Wall post).

Canine Carnival:  Wolves, wolf puppies, fox kits, bears, raptors, and assorted smaller wild animals were all on display for visitors to the Canine Carnival held at the Wildlife Science Center’s new location in Stacy, Minn.  Mikey, Tim Bush’s handsome blue merle smooth collie, made his debut as an MWCR ambassador.  Mikey was joined by Maui, Cat Olund’s charming collie.  Kitty and Arnie Hilk joined Tim and Cat for a delightful day.

Paws on Parade:  MWCR had a booth at the Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter’s annual Paws on Parade walk in Hutchinson, Minn.  Hutchinson residents and MWCR members Robin Kashuba and Brenda Pulkrabek staffed our table along with Kitty and Arnie Hilk.  Special guests were Brenda’s son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren who were visiting from Finland.  Our table drew a considerable amount of attention with six gorgeous collies greeting everyone – Harley Kashuba, Eddie Pulkrabek, Tristan, Jackson, Sammi and Chase Hilk.

Pet-A-Palooza:  CBS Radio’s Pet-A-Palooza held at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul, Minn., continues to draw huge crowds every year.  What could be more enjoyable than fair food and dogs in a festive atmosphere.  Gracie, Gail Toussaint’s beautiful sable collie, made her debut as an ambassador for MWCR and did a wonderful job.  Gail and Gracie will be volunteering at future events.  Barb Gibson with Emily and Laddie, Robin Kashuba with Harley and Olaf, Judy Roggow, and Marian Ridge staffed our booth.  We were next to the Minnesota Sheltie Rescue so visitors got to play with many adorable furry dogs.

MWCR at July community events

In addition to the Collie Frolic, MWCR will participate in the Dog Days of Summer on Saturday, July 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Alimagnet Dog Park in Burnsville, Minn.

We’re always looking for volunteers, with or without their collies, to staff our booth at these community events.  If you’d like to spend a few hours with other dog lovers helping MWCR, please contact Cat Olund at to volunteer.

The next Collie Frolic will be held on Saturday, July 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Stone Mountain Pet Lodge located at 10073 Baltimore Street in Blaine, Minn.  Free admission with $5 suggested donation for lunch.  This is a great opportunity for our collies to play in the indoor and outdoor play areas while all of us collie lovers visit.

Check out animal communicator Kathy Grimes, Reiki practitioner Alan Michael, homemade dog treats and jams and bath products by Kitty Hilk of Gray Gables Farm, and MWCR merchandise made by Yogi and Joan Tadisch of Spirit Graphics.

We’ll have a table of free items and door prizes as well as raffle-style drawings for those who donate to MWCR at the event.
