MWCR held its first online silent auction in May and raised a little over $1,400 to help our collies. Thank you to everyone who bid on and who won items. Most of the items in the auction had been donated to MWCR over the course of the last six months, so we had a nice array of items to offer. Linda Riegger bravely offered to spearhead this fundraiser and worked with Helping Paws, a nonprofit in Indianapolis that hosts online auctions. A big thank you to Linda, Deborah Cornacchia of Helping Paws, Sarah Rebernick for designing our MWCR Fundraising page, Dave and Barb Gibson for photographing the donated items, and to everyone who donated items. Linda has offered to organize another online auction in late summer or early fall, so watch for more details.
May Dog Events
MWCR participated in two community dog events in May. Bark for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society to honor people and dogs touched by cancer, was held at Barkers Alps Park in Stillwater, Minn. Barb Gibson with Emily and Laddie staffed our booth, participated in dog games, and welcomed all who stopped at our table.
Judy Roggow worked with Kathy Bulicz of Catholic Eldercare in Minneapolis to organize the annual Collie Flower party. Residents and their families spent a Sunday afternoon playing with our collies and with shelties from the Minnesota Sheltie Rescue. Thank you to Judy for organizing the event and thank you to Judy and Linda from the Sheltie Rescue and to Arnie Hilk and Robin Kashuba for sharing Coney, Journey, Prancer, Chase, Skylar, and Shelby with the residents. We hope to be back in December for our annual Caroling with Collies event (see pictures on the May Photo Wall blog post).
