The Minnesota Wisconsin Collie Rescue participates in community events to showcase our collies and to inform the public about our rescue.  MWCR recently participated in the following events:

Bark For Life

MWCR participated in its first Bark for Life event in Stillwater, Minn. on May 14.  Bark for Life is sponsored by the American Cancer Society to celebrate both people and dogs who have been touched by cancer.  The event featured Twin Cities dog trainer and radio and TV personality Katie K-9 as the host.  Despite the frigid weather, the attendance was good and everyone had a fun time.

Canine Carnival

Kitty and a collie wannabe!

Every spring, the Wildlife Science Center in Forest Lake, Minn. hosts a Canine Carnival to celebrate all canines.  The Wildlife Science Center is a nationally recognized wolf center which will be moving to a new location later this year. The heat at this year’s event on June 11 caused a few people to leave their dogs at home but didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. This year’s Canine Carnival featured adorable wolf puppies being raised at the Center.  Andi Wulff planned this year’s event and brought Leo, her collie, to the event to demonstrate herding.  Cat Olund and Kitty and Arnie Hilk staffed MWCR’s booth this year and greeted the visitors.

Pet-A-Palooza

One of the highlights of MWCR’s event season is the Pet-A-Palooza sponsored by CBS Radio and held at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul.  The outdoor location with typical fair food (fried cheese curds, pizza, popcorn, etc.), and live music always creates a very festive atmosphere and draws huge crowds of animal lovers.  This year was no exception despite the high temperatures and wind.  Numerous people stopped at our booth with their collies and others stopped to reminisce about growing up with collies.  Robin Kashuba with Harley and Macpherson, a deaf Sheltie; Brenda Pulkrabek with Eddie; Barb Gibson with Emily and Laddie  along with Judy Roggow and Cat Olund staffed MWCR’s booth and discussed our organization and our collies with visitors.  Fortunately, the severe weather that had been predicted held off until after the event ended.
