MWCR spent two spectacular late summer days participating in the Responsible Dog Ownership Day and Brookdale Dog Park Expo in September.

On Saturday, September 6, several kennel clubs, breed specialty clubs, and local 4-H clubs held the Responsible Dog Ownership Day event at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton, a proud dad of two long-haired black German Shepherds, declared that Saturday as Responsible Dog Ownership Day to encourage people to learn about the various breeds and their characteristics. The event included agility, obedience, conformation, rally, weight pull, carting, earth dog, and tracking events as well as information on grooming, canine good citizen designation, and therapy dog training. Barb Gibson, Barb’s friend Hellen, and collie ambassadors Emily and Laddie staffed MWCR’s booth. Emily and Laddie participated in several events and won ribbons. Great job Barb, Emily, and Laddie!

The following Saturday, MWCR had a booth at the Brookdale Dog Park Expo in Brooklyn Park, Minn. Once again, puppy Rodgers stole the show. People couldn’t stop admiring him and he loved every minute of it. Big brother Brett, who is a regular at the dog park, had his admirers as well. Several MWCR members and supporters, including Gayle Koska and Mary Beth Hinrichs and her daughter, stopped by with their collies, so we had quite a crowd at our booth. The dogs even received hugs from a costumed dog character. Thank you, Chris and KJ, for setting up and taking down our booth.
