Minnesota Collie Frolic recap

Thank you to everyone who attended the Collie Frolic at Stone Mountain Pet Lodge in Blaine on June 22.  We had at least 75 people from three states and between 50 and 60 dogs attend.  Needless to say, the place was hopping!

The weather cooperated for the most part so the dogs had fun romping around the large grassy play yard while their people visited both inside and outside.  Some dogs took advantage of Stone Mountain’s grooming salon for a grooming while others used the coupons for a discounted nail trim.  Stone Mountain also provided attendees with a $5 off coupon for use in their retail area.

Attendees enjoyed a picnic-style lunch generously donated by the members of the Events/Fundraising Committee (Cat Olund, Barb Gibson, Kitty Hilk, Linda Riegger, Mary Ann Statz, Robin Kashuba, and Terry Libro).  Arnie Hilk made a special trip to St. Bonifacius to pick up the freshly-made hot dogs and hot dog buns from Mackinthun’s Meats.  After lunch we had drawings for door prizes.  Later in the afternoon, the raffle-like drawings were held for numerous gifts donated by Coleen Baldwin and Carol Brandenburg.

Linda Riegger, with assistance from Doug Jurcich, organized several “Collie Olympics” dog games where the winners received medals, dog treats made by Kitty, and dog toys.  The table of free items was popular as was the table at the entrance piled with bags of dog treats donated by Carol Brandenburg.  Our guests, Mindy St. Dennis of LiliPhoto, animal communicator Julie Snouffer, and Kitty Hilk with Gray Gables Farm dog treats and jams were busy during the Frolic.

Several of our foster dogs attended and a few potentials adopters were quite impressed with them.

Thank you to everyone who attended for making the event the fun and successful event that it was.  Thank you for visiting the vendors who donated a portion of their proceeds to MWCR. Thank you to Rachel, Kitty and Arnie’s granddaughter, for helping with the drawings and thank you to KJ, Chris Norman’s son, for managing the credit card transactions.  A special thank you to MWCR supporter, Carol Brandenberg, for donating the dog treats and most of the prizes for the drawings.  And, thank you to the members of the Event/Fundraising Committee for the many hours of work that went into planning and organizing this event and for the time spent during the Frolic keeping everything running smoothly!

Hope to see many of you on August 24 at the Madison Area Collie Frolic, next May for the Milwaukee Area Collie Frolic, and next June for the Minnesota Collie Frolic! – Terry Libro, President, Minnesota Wisconsin Collie Rescue
